There have been some big changes at HowCork lately, and we wanted to let you in on what's going on behind the scenes.
We are excited to announce that we have recently begun working with three awesome small designers/companies who manufacture cork products of unmatched quality. They are all located in Portugal, the largest cork producing country in the world, where cork is no less than part of Portuguese DNA. We have chosen to work with these companies due to their artisanal craftsmanship and ethical business practices, as well as their commitment to the environment, a cleaner world, and strong local communities.
The first company we have begun working with is Corkor.
Corkor is owned and operated by a couple named Natalia Guerreiro and Vitor Lopes, who are passionate about cork and living in harmony with nature. Their life mission is to bring cork into the hearts and lives of people all over the world, while ensuring that the cork forests in Portugal continue to thrive for generations to come. They produce beautifully handcrafted bags and wallets of all types, and everything is done on their premises. They have a small staff of seamstresses who bring the tradition of handcrafted artisanal cork creations to the modern world. Their work with cork benefits both the economy and the ecology of their community.
The second company who we are working with is Artelusa.
Artelusa is also a small business who puts the health of the planet first. They are determined to create a more ecological, conscious world one piece of cork at a time. They are passionate about their work down to every detail. Their goal is to provide a sustainable alternative to many products that we buy every day. And like us, they are overjoyed that raw natural materials such as cork are making their way into the mainstream, with new people discovering the good word of cork every day. Each one of their products is intentionally made with slightly different tones and textures, as each is an individual work of art. Artelusa specializes in all types of innovative cork creations such as bags, wallets, jewelry, shoes, belts, hats, umbrellas, and cell phone cases.
The third company who we are working with is Grow From Nature.
Grow From Nature is a small company owned and operated by Bruno Pinheiro, a young, motivated entrepreneur with a small shop located in Ericeira, Portugal. He produces a line of unique cork bags, wallets, and accessories made with with eclectic natural cork patterns. Always inspired by nature, Bruno is determined to bring cork to the world along with the message that we must live in harmony with the planet in order to grow to our fullest potential. Bruno's motto is, "What is born in nature has a chance to grow." Grow From Nature writes in the interior of their hats, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication," and we couldn't agree more.
In addition, all three companies are certified to be vegan by PETA, an organization dedicated to animal rights and educating people about what happens to the environment and our health when we produce industrialized animal products. PETA has given their "PETA Vegan Approved" certification to Corkor, Artelusa, and Grow From Nature, which means that most (if not all) of their products are vegan, made without any products derived from animals.
It is our goal at How Cork to be your favorite spot to find everything you can imagine made of high-quality cork, all in one place. Every day we dive deeper into the world of cork and sustainable fashion, and it is our mission to bring everything we find here to you. We can't wait to see what the future will bring!
